Women Making Waves Gala

Surfrider Foundation Fundraiser // San Juan Capistrano, CA

Saving the oceans is no small feat but our friends at Surfrider are on the front lines daily trying to keep the sea clean and protected. Each year they host two annual fundraisers to support their efforts and honor someone who embodies the Surfrider spirit. Kim Johnson,  co-founder of the Kokua Hawaii Foundation works tirelessly on environmental education initiatives and finding solutions to plastic pollution was this year's honoree. The event was hosted at the Ecology Center, a farm focused on sustainability and community service, where not one ounce of plastic was used or distributed at the event. Chef Ed Kenny from Hawaii (and close friend of Kim’s) served up appetizers and dinner to 500 guests on the farm while Jack Johnson and Lukas Nelson performed for the crowd. It was an evening of enchantment where more money was raised than any other event they’ve ever had via silent and live auctions.
